This is a good piece of news for the economically and socially backward class students aspiring to crack the IIT JEE entrance examinations.
Barely days after it was announced that Super-30, a renowned coaching institute run for the weaker sections, would be closed down after some of its successful JEE students were ‘hijacked’ by rival education mafia in Patna, the owner of famed gurukul is now having second thoughts.
Its chief patron Abhyanand, Additional Director General of Police in Bihar, and his colleague Anand Kumar, a maths wizard, have bowed to the pressure of poor students and their family members, and decided not to shut shop as it would jeopardise the career of many wannabe engineers.
Super-30 was launched in 2002. In the very first year of its inception, 18 students cleared the IIT, followed by 22 in the second year, 26 in the third year and 28 last year. However, this year the whole controversy began when three out of 28 successful students of the Super-30, who cracked the IIT entrance examinations on May 30, were paraded before the chief minister Nitish Kumar by a rival institute claiming that it had coached them.
Pained and anguished over this kind of “poaching”, Abhyanand announced that he was going to close down the institute. “My mission was not only to make these poor students qualify for the IIT but also to make them good human beings. But when they have sold themselves to some unknown institute, it’s better that we consign Super-30 to history,” a visibly upset IPS officer said.
As the announcement created a storm, pressure from all sections of the society mounted on Abhyanand and Anand to reconsider their decision. The three students returned to their gurus, offered unconditional apology and said they won’t join the IIT if Super-30 was not revived. “We are sorry for the pain we caused to Anand Sir and Abhyanand Sir. Without Super-30, we would have never cracked the IIT,” said Pranav, son of a tailor.

Confirming the revival plan, Anand Kumar on Friday said: “It’s true that the closure announcement was made a few days back after we were emotionally battered. But we have now succumbed to the enormous pressure. We are going to revive the Super-30. However, the format and nomenclature will be a bit different. From next batch onwards, we will be coaching around 100 students, instead of 30, as there is no dearth of talent in Bihar”.
