A foreign national participating in the Women’s Day programme at Bal Bhavan was molested on Monday. The woman drew the attention of the police who caught the youth. However, no case was registered against him, it was learnt.
As part of the Women’s Day celebrations, a seminar on ‘Women’s Empowerment Through Organisation’ was being held.
When the woman, who took a break from the seminar, was about to enter the toilet room, a youth pulled from from behind. Frightened, she ran out screaming. She narrated the incident to bystanders. By then, four policemen who came there on learning about the incident, nabbed the youth.
Later, the woman and the youth were brought to the police station. When Cubbon Park police were contacted, they denied such an incident had occurred.
But a woman participating in the seminar confirmed the foreign national came out screaming from the toilet room. Requesting anonymity, she claimed the youth was wearing a black tee-shirt and had long hair. An organiser went with the victim along with the accused to the police station, she said.
Three days ago, advisor to Governor Tharakan had said at Bal Bhavan there were several laws to protect women in the country.
