“Culture (samskriti) is constructive in nature and hence anything which is destructive cannot be called culture. Our culture is close to life, without any masks. It does not stand for blind beliefs, on the contrary it is the link between the idea (‘vichara’) and science (‘vijnana’),” said eminent film maker Nagathihalli Chandrashekar.
Addressing the inaugural programme of ‘Samskrithi Sinchana 2008’ organised at Town hall on Monday by Alvas Education Trust and Justice K S Hegde Charitable Foundation, Mr Chandrashekar said that any culture, which does not accept new ideas brought in by science slowly deteriorates.
Mr Chandrashekar said that in the present days, society is facing a major threat due to the growing trend of superiority complex among the people about their own culture. Culture is being wrongly defined by many and in the quest of nurturing our own culture, it so happens that many tend to belittle other culture.
“Culture cannot be confined at all as it is more elaborate than open thinking. It is not confined to the evaluations done in the school or rituals offered in the temples. It is much more than that,” he added.
Nitte Education Trust Chairman N Vinay Hegde, Alvas Education Trust President M Mohan Alva, Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao were present at the programme.
On the occasion, ‘Sanskrithi Sinchana Award 2008’ was conferred on flutist Praveen Godkindi and violinist Dr Mysore Manjunath.
Spellbinding Jugalbandi
Flutist Praveen Godkindi left the audience spellbound with his breathtaking flute performance while Mysore Manjunath touched the right chord with the audience at the Jugalbandi between the two that followed the Sanskriti Sinchana -2008.
Godkindi, Dr Manjunath, Rajendra Nakod (tabla) and Jayachandra Rao (Mridangam) are some of the best performers of the country and rightly the positive vibes between the artists while jugalbandi was evident and every ‘harkat’ that they did bagged them applause after applause from the music lovers.
