Congress demands probe into tender irregularities
DH News Service,Kunigal:

The Congress party workers laid siege to the Child Development Project official’s office on Monday demanding the withdrawal of the tenders for the rice supply. the protesters alleged that there were irregularities in the tender process called for supplying rice to the Anganwadi centres under the ‘Wholesome nutritious food programme’.
Led by the Congress leaders Suresh, Singri Gowda, A G Ramesh, Narayan and TMC member Rangaswamy lambasted the officials responsible to the tender process and said that no notices inviting for tenders had appeared in publications or sections of media and the process was completed in an non-transparent manner.
“The last day to submit the tender was 29 of February and only three institutions filed for it and eventually it went the the Janatha bazaar with the lowest quote of Rs 20-25. However when  good quality rice is available in the open market at the price of Rs 12 or 13 where is the logic of awarding a tender at the price of Rs 20,” the protesters demanded to know.
Requirement
They demanded to take a look at books and the entries made for the tender but found only namesake documents among them.
The anganwadi centres require about 200 tonnes of rice for the year 2008-09 and the protesters alleged that there was a discrepancy amounting to Rs 16 lakhs with the given quotations.
They were demanding that the tender process be cancelled and investigations be conducted to see if the officials are involved  and also take appropriate action against the guilty. They have also warned fo intensified agitation if the matter was not attended to immediately.
