Three elephants were spotted in the Devaradasohalli region, on the Tumkur-Bangalore border, on Monday morning.
Villagers complain that the elephants have damaged their crops thereby making huge losses. It is also said that a man was trampled by an elephant near Dobbespet. But official sources say that there has been no loss of life, while confirming that crops have been damaged.
According to a source, the elephants have been in the region for three days, but were spotted by the villagers only on Sunday. Immediately, the information was conveyed to the authorities concerned.
Police and forest officers were at the spot, and taking steps to drive the elephants back into the forest.
Sources say that the elephants - which had camped in the forest till dusk - slowly started moving towards Dobbespet, and the forest officers’ methods of lighting fireworks went in vain. Later, the elephants left on their own accord.
According to a villager, the elephants have been visiting the Devarahosahalli region, and this is the fourth time in a year that the elephants have strayed into the village.
