School Development Monitoring Committees (SDMC)have been instituted to look into the development and supervision of the schools. However, the SDMCs have been interfering in the administration of the schools as well due to certain vested political interests. Moreover, the SDMCs have been accused of harassing the teaching staff. All of these factors have inturn affected the functioning of the teachers, accused the members of the Karnataka State Primary School Teachers’ Association, Kolar unit.
The office-bearers of the association demanded that action be taken against the SDMC for harassing the head mistress of the Batrahalli Government Higher Primary School in Kolar taluk.
Unable to bear the torture she had even attempted suicide, they added.
Pressing for immediate action the office-bearers of Karnataka State Primary School Teachers’ Association, Kolar unit staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Director’s office of the Public Education Department on Monday.
The torture undergone by the head mistress of he Batrahalli Government Higher Primary School in Kolar taluk is being experienced by other teachers in the various schools in the State as well. Thus, efforts should be directed to scrap the SDMCs as soon as possible, they demanded.
Our demands have been clearly indicated in the memorandum that will be sent to the Governor through the Commissioner of the Public Education Department, the protesters stated.
Also, the SDMCs have been seeking share in the funds granted to the schools in the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana Scheme and have also misutilised the Aksharadasoha programmes for personal benefits, the protesters urged.
SDMCs should work towards the development of schools and not interfere in their administration. Moreover, the funds allocated to the development of schools should be handed over to the school principal.
Thus, considering all of these factors the SDMCs should be banned all over the State, the protesters underlined.
