Ghising quits as DGHC administrator
DH News Service, Kolkata:

Bowing to popular demand, the GNLF supremo Subhas Ghising on Monday resigned as the sole administrator of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC). Ghising held sway in Darjeeling virtually unchallenged for the past 20 years.

Ghising, currently camping in Siliguri, handed over the resignation letter to Darjeeling District Magistrate Rajesh Pandey who has been officiating as Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council principal secretary.

Thousands of people thronged the streets in the three hill sub-divisions to celebrate Ghising’s resignation.
Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) president Bimal Gurung claimed it as a victory of democracy.

It is not known whether Ghising, presently nursing a sore throat and mile fever, would be allowed to travel to Darjeeling following his resignation.

The GNLF leader has been put up in a WBSEB guest house here for the last four days after rival GJM activists blocked his entry to Darjeeling for the second time in a month.
