The Minister intends to increase the allocation for education department by 22 per cent as compared to last year. This will help in improving basic amenities in primary and secondary schools, quality of education, enrollment and retention of students.
A total of Rs 8,592.23 crore has been proposed this year for education compared to last year’s Rs 7,004.31 crores.’
Budget lauded
Experts had good words for the budget proposals made for education department. But some felt that more money could have been given for the ITIs. They only hope the money sanctioned is utilised properly.
Secretary to Primary and Secondary Education T M Vijay Bhaskar said the additional funds would be utilised properly. Orders will be issued to use the allocated funds in all the on-going schemes by the first week of April. If there are any new schemes, then it will be issued in April end, he explained.
Pre-University Department Commissioner S G Hegde said the high budget allocation for pre-university colleges will enable the department to provide better infrastructure.
Commissioner of Public Instruction Kumar G Naik said that proposing funds for the basic amenities is a welcome feature.
This time, the department aims to provide basic amenities like water and toilets for the students, he added.
