Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum has obtained government approval to put in place a permanent staff. The university which has been functioning without any permanent staff member since its inception in 1998 will get 325 permanent employees by September this year.
Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Monday, Dr H P Khincha, Vice Chancellor of VTU said “a committee of VTU will soon meet to discuss the guidelines and norms to be followed before finalising the appointment process. In four to six months, the entire process of appointing the staff should be over,'' he added.
Commenting on the continuation of some of Officers on deputation in VTU whose services are continued even after five years period, Dr Khincha said once the permanent staff is appointed, the university could have permanent postings of deputy registrars and other posts. Thereafter they could need less number of special officers for the University .
Responding to a question on whether the VTU got any leads relating to the recent incidents of question paper leak, he said the university formed an inquiry committee to expose the people behind leaking papers. He said the investigating team had been able to get some vital leads and efforts were on to plug such leakages.
To enhance security, he said the university was introducing surveillance cameras and additional software and hardware required to make the entire examination system fool-proof.
