Mangalore University students staged a protest by holding rasta roko in Konaje on Tuesday, urging the bus owners to pay compensation to the family of the student Savitha and another person who were killed when a City bus knocked her down at State Bank terminus in Mangalore on Monday

 Mangalore University students staged a protest by holding rasta roko in Konaje on Tuesday, urging the bus owners to pay compensation to the family of the student Savitha and another person who were killed when a City bus knocked her down at State Bank terminus in Mangalore on Monday.
They urged the authorities to implement speed governor to the buses.
Speaking on the occasion, Mangalore University Student Union President Umesh Yadav said “Ms Savitha come from a poor family. Her parents earn their livelihood by working as daily wage labourers. Bus owners should pay a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family. Buses in Mangalore University campus premises should play in the speed of 30 km per hour.”
Mangalore Division Assistant Commissioner Sameer Shukla and Panambur ASP Kaushalendra Kumar who visited the spot assured to take measure within 10 days. Canara Bus Owners Association Secretary Azeez Parthipady said bus owners meeting will be convened on March 13 and will decided on the compensation to be paid to the family.  He also invited students to the meet. The students leaders threatened to intensify their protest with the support of all college students, if the action is not initiated within 10 days.  VC Prof K M Kaveriappa, Registrar Dr K Sundar Naik were present.
