Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), on Wednesday, announced its Chairman & Managing Director Kuldeep Goyal presented a cheque of Rs 3,000 crore to Minister of Communications & IT A Raja, as repayment of notional government loan of Rs 7,500 crore.
This notional government loan was transferred to BSNL as part of capital structure without any additional cash inflow from the government at the time of corporatisation of erstwhile DTO and DTS.
BSNL said it has already paid a sum of Rs 2,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore as repayment of loan in 2005-06 and 2006-07 respectively, besides an interim dividend of Rs 300 crore in current financial year to the Centre.
BSNL is one of largest contributor to government exchequer in 2006-07 by contributing more than Rs 12,800 crore.
In current financial year 2007-08, BSNL is expected to contribute more than Rs 13,000 crore to the exchequer, the company said.
