Academics and a dash of Indian values

Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra, Bangalore follows the CBSE syllabus and makes sure its students are exposed to Indian traditions and culture.

Having the best of both worlds – that’s how the management of the Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra would describe the curricular and co-curricular activities offered to the students of their school. The school, which is run by the Rashtrotthana Parishat, follows the CBSE syllabus – while also making sure that their students are exposed to Indian traditions and culture.

“That’s our main USP,” says B N Gopala Krishna, the manager of the school. “We lay emphasis on the Indian tradition, not as an activity chosen by the students themselves, but in the curriculum itself,” he adds.

And this is done through different ways: The day begins with a 55-minute assembly, where prayers are recited. Classical music, yoga, dance and martial arts like karate are included in the curriculum; students are evaluated on a monthly basis, and can attend these classes without the hassles of staying late or paying any extra fee.

From the nursery classes, Sanskrit language is compulsory – while the younger students learn to identify the alphabet, students from Class II study written Sanskrit. Students study four languages – English, Kannada, Hindi and Sanskrit – till class V, after which they can choose to continue with any three.

Celebration time

Every Indian festival is celebrated in the school, with the children being told about the significance of each. Ditto with national festivals like Independence and Republic Days, when the school does not declare a holiday – instead, students attend parades, cultural activities centred on the significance of the festival being celebrated. But what about students from other communities? “It is told to parents during the admission, that this is what we follow here, and they’re comfortable with it. In fact, when we celebrate the festivals, we pick the Iranian and Christian students who study here to take part, so that they also get the awareness,” says Gopala Krishna.

The campus is located in Arkavathy Layout on Thanishandra Main Road, 3 kms off the Ring Road from Nagavara junction. For details contact: 080-2846 5972 or 98806 51978. Email: ravikeblr@gmail.com, or visit www.ravikeblr.edu.in
