In a new twist to the mysterious death of graphics designer Rizwanur Rahman, the family of the deceased, in an affidavit to the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, claimed that the body of Rizwanur, was swapped with a 55-year-old man.
The memo sent by the Dum Dum Station superintendent to the GRP said the body of a man, aged approximately 55 years, was found at the spot, Rukbanur, elder brother of Rizwanur, submitted in his reply to the affidavits filed by the five police officers, Ashok Todi and the West Bengal government.
“My brother body had been swapped with that of the old man,” Rukbanur alleged before newsmen here. The error of judgement in ascertaining the approximate age, Rukbanur maintained in the affidavit, could not vary so much and claimed that there was a mystery about how the 55-year-old body could suddenly become that of a 29-year-old.
The CBI has already said in its report to the High Court that Rizwanur had committed suicide.
Meanwhile, in another affidavit filed by the Bengal government on Wednesday, the CBI was accused of having superseded its jurisdiction of investigation. The state’s Advocate general Mr Balai Roy while briefing the media added that the High Court should reject the CBI report.
Rizwanur’s family in turn alleged that the government’s anti-CBI stand proves that it has been trying to shield the guilty officials from the start.
