With security concerns regarding emails sent through BlackBerry phones having been raised by the Union Home Ministry, a high-level meeting is expected to be held soon among Department of Telecommunications, service providers and Research In Motion (RIM) officials to sort out the issue.
While the license for Tata Teleservices reportedly being delayed because of security concerns, the government is understood to have written to the other service providers offering BlackBerry services in India —Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Infocom and BPL — to allow monitoring of emails sent through the service.
Officials of RIM, the company holding the patent for BlackBerry, are camping in Delhi to sort out the matter, sources said.
