Better late than never... he believed in and worked on, not just on one form of art but combined his interest and skill in multiple art forms to create his very own medium of thought.
Recently at his first solo exhibition in Bangalore, this doctor and artist from Mangalore, showcased his work, a combination of photography, technology and painting. “More than a decade ago, bringing together various art forms was unheard of. Even I took quite a while to understand technology. It was only after, that I could put to use the proper method of technology to implement in the photographs I took,” says Akhter.
Photography, he says, tops his list of interest and in that landscapes and abstract photography is what keeps him going. But when he realised the impact multiple art forms can bring to one work, he began infusing them into his work. “And it brought alive the picture adding more meaning to it,” he shares.
Akhter travels solely for the purpose of capturing life on camera and his collection in Bangalore included a mix of images spanning nature, places of historical significance, people and landscapes. On these images, he adds the tools of computer graphics along with a dab of acrylic and water colours to enhance the overall image for a viewer. “At times, painting takes over the photograph and it’s hard to recognise the work of the camera. But more often than not, photography retains the prime spot with the other two forms of art simply adding to its presentation,” he says.
Akhter displayed 40 odd pieces of work at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat recently. In the pipeline is yet another exhibition in Bangalore. This time, he will be working with another photographer on the area of wildlife photography. That apart, an exhibition outside India is also on the cards.
