Four persons were killed and several others hurt, when police opened fire on an irate mob of protesters at Bengtal in Chirang district of western Assam on Thursday. The agitators were protesting against the police attempt to close down a camp of the secessionist militant outfit— National Democratic Front of Bodoland.

“We had to open fire to disperse the mob, when the protesters started pelting stone and assaulted some of the security-men,” said the district’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), M M Boro.

Heathrow airport alert

London, PTI: A man with a rucksack breached security at London’s Heathrow airport on Thursday by scaling a fence and rushing towards an Emirates Airways aircraft, sparking a major security alert. Police, who arrested the man, stated to be of Asian Arab origin, examined his rucksack but no explosives were found.
