The High Court on Thursday admitted a PIL against the recent notification seeking to outsource the printing and binding of government free text books.
The petition filed by L Kalappa, Secretary of Hind Mazdoor Kissan Panchayat, Karnataka Unit, contended that on February 11, 2008 the notification issued by the Director of Printing, Stationery and Publications Action is contrary to 2004 Government Order, which prohibits entrusting of printing jobs to private firms, he said.
The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice B V Nagarathna ordered notices to State Education Department and DPSP and asked them to file responses within three weeks.
‘Not its function’
“It is not the function of the High Court to select the site for construction of Mini Vidhana Soudha. It is the function of the respective government authorities.” This is what a HC Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph said while dismissing a PIL regarding location of Mini Vidhana Soudha in Puttur, DK district, on Thursday
Compensation
The HC directed the management of now defunct Bengal Lamps factory to pay its workers 45 days’ salary for every completed year of service as compensation for closure. Justice Subhash B Adi allowed an appeal by Bengal Lamps Workers’ Union, challenging the Labour Court’s order.
