It is not debts that are to blame for farmers’ suicides, rather it due to lack of self-confidence, noted poet and playwright L N Mukundaraja said here on Friday.
He was speaking at the launch of the book ‘Yalagalavadi Grama Sankrutiya Grahikagalu’, written by journalist Y G Venkateshaiah, during a programme held at the Kunigal Kandaya Bhavana.
Inner strength
Presiding over the programme, Mukundaraja said that due to lack of creativity, farmers have lost their inner strength and inspiration, which is why more and more of them are being driven to commit suicide.
Industrialist and social worker Manoj Kumar inaugurated the programme. Ratna Balegowda released the book, and litterateur Vattagere Nagarajaiah spoke about the book and the author.
Tahsildar Niranjan Babu, taluk Balija Sangha president Ramachandrappa, PSI Siddaraju, former TMC vice-president STD Srinivas, TMC member Rangaswamy, lawyers Vishakanthe Gowda and others were present.
Journalist and writer Y G Venkateshaiah also spoke on the occsion.
