New hairstyle, new wardrobe

Is there a connection between a new hairstyle and an all new wardrobe? Well, research seems to suggest that a whopping 81 per cent of girls change their wardrobe after they style their hair.

Gunjan Gupta, a newly-wed girl in her 20s, says, “After every visit to the hair salon, I need to do a rethink about my wardrobe. In fact, on my wedding day, I had thought of wearing one particular dress. But after my hair was styled, I suddenly had second thoughts about the dress and ended up wearing something totally different, which I felt jelled well with my hair style.”

Even hair experts feel that there is an intimate connection between hair and wardrobe. Hair expert Jawed Habib opines, “The hair gets noticed first and everything else follows. On special occasions, the clothes have to blend well with the hairstyle. I have had cases where girls asked me to give them a particular hair style and then they have proceeded to buy the couture to suit the same.”

Incidentally, fashion designers also seem to corroborate this new trend amongst new-age girls. Karishma Karer, a boutique owner, avers, “Several patrons often do up their hair and then walk into my boutique. Their new hairstyle gives them a lot of confidence and they dare to be different in their choice of couture. I have had customers who have changed their entire wardrobe after getting their hair styled.”

Hair colouring and dress patterns also go hand in hand. Madeline Pereira, an events manager, admits, “After I get my hair coloured, I need to go shopping in order to select dresses that match my streaks. And in today’s age, since there are a lot of choices when it comes to hair colours, it gives me more options in terms of choosing the right dress.”

Life indeed seemed to be ruled by hair for today’s generation! Bollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra says, “For every girl, wardrobe and hair go hand in hand. They are often complimentary to each other and one leads to the other. However, the modern girl prefers to get her hair done first and then select her clothes.”
