Sonia Gandhi has rejected the charge that she had in any way owed allegiance to the Belgian Constitution by accepting a civilian honour from that country.

In her reply to a notice issued by the Election Commission on the basis of a disqualification complaint for receiving the honour, the Sonia has said that she had not chosen to become a member of the body that gave away the Order of Leopold honour.

EC sources confirmed receipt of the reply and said it would be examined before taking any decision on whether to disqualify her from the Lok Sabha.
