Arjun Singh surprised Lam Chih Bing two and one, while Shamim Khan defeated Ali Sher on the second playoff hole to set up a title clash in the SRF All-India Professional Golf Matchplay Championship here on Friday.
Interestingly, there will be a new winner on the PGTI at the end of the 36-hole final on Saturday as both Arjun and Shamim have not won a title on the PGTI so far.
Arjun was involved in an exciting semifinal clash with Singapore’s Lam Chih Bing. The Delhi-based golfer first went ahead by winning the fifth hole. Lam Chih soon bounced back to take the lead when he won the seventh and ninth holes.
Arjun came right back into the game with wins on the 10th and 15th. Arjun then went on to win the 17th to book a place in the final with a two and one score.
In the other semifinal of the day, veteran Sher took on his nephew Shamim Khan. If the first semifinal was a close affair, this one was even better.
Shamim won the nail-biting encounter by sinking a ten-foot putt on the second playoff hole (20th hole).
It was all square after 18 holes as Shamim had won the first, sixth and seventh holes, while Ali Sher bagged the fifth, eighth and 10th.
The two players birdied the first playoff hole. Shamim then came through by sinking another birdie on the 20th as Sher made par.
The final will be played over 36 holes. In the other match slated for Saturday, Lam Chih Bing and Ali Sher will clash for the third and fourth place. This match will be decided over 18 holes.
