Stung by the allegation by the mother of the slain British teenaged girl Scarlett Keeling that he had links with drug mafia, Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik on Saturday hit back by demanding a probe into the mother’s background, source of income and frequent trips to Karnataka.
“There is need to probe into her (Fiona’s) background and source of income. We will certainly do it,” Naik said, reacting to the allegations of nexus with drug mafia levelled against him by Fiona Mackeown.
The mother, whose 15-year-old girl Scarlett was drugged, raped and left to die on Goa’s popular Anjuna beach, had charged the Home Minister and Director General of Police B S Brar of having nexus with the drug mafia in the state.
A seemingly perturbed Naik said the Home Ministry would investigate why Fiona was often visiting Karnataka.
He termed Fiona’s statements as `foolish’. “Goa police have thoroughly probed the case (of Scarlett’s murder) and booked the people. We have comissioned reputed officer like Superintendent of Police (North) Bosco George to handle the case,” he added.
