With the opposition AIADMK deciding not to put up a second candidate, all six nominees are expected to be formally declared elected unopposed in the Rajya Sabha polls after March 19, the last date for withdrawal.
On Saturday Union Minister G K Vasan and AICC spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan from the Congress filed their papers. The others expected to be elected unopposed are A A Jinnah and Ms Vasanthi Stanley from the DMK, T K Rangarajan from the CPM and N Balaganga from the AIADMK.
Meanwhile the Telugu Desam Party is nominating N T Rama Rao’s son Nandamuri Harikrishna as its candidate for the biennial election to the RS.
