A record 2,015 applications, a majority of them claiming medical relief, were received at the Governor’s Janata Darshan in Bangalore on Saturday.
As many as 494 applications received were for medical reimbursement, land related issues stood next at 347. Scores who attended the Janata Darshan held at Banquet Hall in Vidhana Soudha were from districts of North Karnataka.
A delegation of physically challenged persons from North Karnataka met Governor Rameshwar Thakur and urged him to increase the disability pension from Rs 400 to Rs 1,000 per month.
They also sought free medical education, hostel facility for physically challenged children besides five per cent reservation in government jobs.
The Hutti Gold Mines Company Limited donated a sum of Rs one crore towards the ‘Chief Minister’s Relief Fund’ to provide succour to persons suffering and in need. Later in the day, Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited also has donated Rs 1 crore to the CM’s relief fund.
On Saturday, as many as 89 patients of heart aliments were referred to various hospitals. In addition 22 patients requiring heart surgeries were referred to Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and 13 cases to Narayana Hrudayalaya. A sum of Rs 8.61 lakh was released to meet the expenses of the surgeries.
Governor Rameshwar Thakur reiterated that he had instructed officials to conduct district level Janata Darshans on a regular basis.
