Tale of two Airports
A comparison of some of the facilities offered at the BIA when compared to the HAL

Runway : The BIA initially will have one runway designed to accommodate B 747 aircraft. The 4,000 metre runway is 60 metre wide including shoulders. HAL Airport’s runway measuring 3,307 metres has been handling both civilian and military aircraft.

Terminal : BIA’s terminal area is approximately 71,000 square metres and can accommodate 2733 passengers per hour.

HAL Terminal area is relatively small to accommodate the ever increasing passenger rate.

Flight Movements : The BIA will handle 400 plus flight movements with 10 million passengers. The HAL Airport, currently the third busiest in the country, handles 350 odd flight movements every day.

Parking Facilities:  In addition to 700 car parks for staff, BIAL’s car park can accommodate 2000 cars as against HAL’s cramped parking bays at the arrival and departure areas which can handle roughly about 700 vehicles.

Taxi service : BIAL has selected Meru and Easycab to provide basic taxi services which will have basic AC box cars, all equipped with GPS and GPRS to track the journey for safety and transparency.  Over 900 taxis will be available when the airport begins operations. At HAL passengers can either make use of the pre-paid taxi service offered by KSTDC and the Bangalore Airport Taxi Drivers Union or even hire a Autorickshaw.

Other facilities : BIA will be offering a host of facilities including a luxury and budget hotel in the airport premises, retail out lets, cafes and restaurants.
