With thousands of party workers converging near Hudson Circle, Kasturba Road was cordoned off for traffic. The diversion of traffic had its cascading effect. Traffic came to a grinding halt or moved at snail’s pace on K G Road, J C Road, K R Market, Mysore Road, Cubbon Road and surrounding areas. Commuters were also put to inconvenience on Race Course Road, Ambedkar Road, K R Circle and Palace Road.
Haphazard parking of vehicles of agitators further aggravated the problem. As many as 200 buses had arrived from Bellary alone. KSRTC buses had been hired to ferry people from Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, Kolar and Ramanagaram. Traffic at the busy Kumble Circle too was effected as rows of vehicles came to a standstill.
The hapless snarl-hit commuters on two-wheelers had no option but to wait in the hot sun. Those in BMTC buses, stuck in the traffic jam, got down and preferred to walk to their destinations. Cubbon Park was littered with empty plates and left-over food, as lunch was served to those who attended the rally.
Yeddyurappa who addressed the rally at Hudson Circle said that Rs 250 crore was allocated for the Sandhya Suraksha old age pension scheme, but hardly Rs 10 lakh had been spent.
P P Prabhu, advisor to the Governor received a memorandum from the BJP delegation. The memorandum pointed out the delay in distribution of ration cards to people living Below the Poverty Line. The BJP has set the Governor a one-week deadline to implement the Sandhya Suraksha scheme.
