KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday alleged that the Election Commission (EC) was helping the BJP by declaring that it has completed the delimitation process of all 224 Assembly constituencies and was ready to hold elections to the state Assembly.
Addressing a press conference, Kharge charged that the EC was misleading the people and political parties without taking steps to correct the anomalies in the voters’ list. “We have a feeling that EC has come under pressure from some quarter to hurriedly declare the elections”, he remarked.
Kharge said as per the check list provided to the electoral roll observers none of the conditions has been fulfilled so far and the information regarding the rolls have not been shared with any political parties and written receipts obtained from them. All major political parties and some NGOs have submitted their complaints to the EC, but so far no deputy commissioner has bothered to inform them of the action taken, he added.
He said even though the voters population has exceeded the census figure in some constituencies like Tumkur City and Humnabad, no action has been taken to set right the anomaly. There are 13,000 polling booths having more than 1200 voters, but no efforts have been made to set up auxillary polling booths.
Janandolana
Preparations are afoot in Mysore for the Janandolana rally to be held by Congress on Sunday at Maharaja College grounds. Rains that lashed the City late Friday night did play spoilsport to the ongoing works, ahead of Janandolana. Former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah, AICC member Vasu and other leaders visited the spot and took stock of the preparations that are in full swing. A bike rally was held on the eve of the Janandolana.
