The appointment has been made by Pope Benedict XVI. Presently, Fr Henry D’Souza is the executive Secretary for Social Communications of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of India.
The diocese of Bellary comprises Bellary, Raichur and Koppal districts. Born in 1949 at Kinigoli in Udupi district, he was ordained priest in 1976 for Mangalore diocese. After his ordination, he served in St Peter’s church Barkur for two years, then he seerved two years in Mangala Jyothi as an Assistant Director. Then, he became the director of Canara Communication Centre for nine years. He was appointed as secretary for Regional Communication Commission for Karnataka for 11 years. He founded Sandesha Regional Centre for Arts and through this centre, he founded Sandesha awards and recognsied the people who served in the different fields without caste and creed. The seat of Bellary Bishop was vacant due to the passing away of Bishop Joseph D’Silva on November 17, 2006. The diocese has about 25,000 Catholics, 55 diocesan clergy and about 230 religious men and women.
