JD(S) convention: Mob hurls stones, slippers at police
DH News Service, Tumkur:

Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s visit to the City   on Sunday as part of the ‘Jaitra Yatra’ ended with an unpleasant note as the crowd gathered at the venue of JD(S) party workers’ meet turned violent  and threw stones, slippers and chairs at the police.

Atleast ten people have been injured in the incident.

Kumaraswamy was addressing the mega convention of district JD(S) party workers when a group of people started advancing towards the dias to approach him. To control them police resorted to lathi charge. Irked by this, the unruly mob started hurling stones, chairs and slippers at the police. It is said that some JD(S) workers were also part of this mob. In the clash between the public and the police at least ten people have been injured.
The moment Kumaraswamy realised the gravity of the situation he got up from his chair and told ASP Anantharamaiah to stop beating the  party workers.

Later he consoled the affected people and appealed to maintain peace and order. It was only then that normalcy returned to the venue.

Former minister C Chennigappa, Gubbi former legislator Srinivas, Kunigal former legislator H Ningappa and other leaders also took the police to task. Party leaders said a complaint will be registered with the IGP to take action against the erring police officials.

HDK IS LATE AGAIN
Tumkur, DHNS: H D Kumaraswamy arrived four-and-a-half hours late for the JD(S) convention held here on Sunday.
The convention was scheduled to begin at 11 am but Kumaraswamy arrived only at 3.30 pm. The delay was because of a pooja which was held in Devarayanadurga the party workers say.

Kumaraswamy’s visit is significant as it his first visit to Tumkur after losing his Chief Ministership. On the advise of his confidant he first offered pooja to Narasimhaswamy at Devarayanadurga.

People were waiting for the arrival of Kumaraswamy at Government Junior College grounds, the venue for the JD(S) convention. Kumaraswamy apologised for the delay.

Meanwhile some miscreants created trouble and to quell it, the police had to resort to lathi charge.

Two-and-a-half years ago in August Siddaramaiah organised the Ahinda convention and criticised Deve Gowda. A week later the JD(S) convention was held at the Government Junior College grounds and Kumaraswamy replied to the questions raised by Siddaramaiah.

After he became chief minister, Kumaraswamy came to Tumkur several times, but did not arrive on time on a single occasion say the Party workers. He arrived late even on Sunday.

Being a former Chief Minister, people expected him to be late at the most for half an hour. But the workers consoled themselves that such delays due to traffic and poojas are inevitable.
