Palm Sunday is also the last Sunday of Lent and the beginning of the holy week.
As part of the celebrations, the priests in the respective churches blessed the palm and distributed to all the devotees in the parishes.
Later, a colourful procession was taken out to the respective churches wherein the devotees carried the palm leaves.
Church choirs followed the processions. The procession was followed by holy mass. In Mangalore City, Cordel, Milagres, Bendoor, Urwa, Rosario, Angelore churches took out a grand procession while similar celebrations were held in Mother of Sorrows church in Udupi and other parts of the districts.
In fact, these palms are converted to ashes in the following year and the same ash is rubbed on the foreheads of Christians on Ash Wednesday to mark the beginning of the Lent.
