Defining the profile of party-led governments in the context of the changed political scenario, the CPM has observed that the states ruled by it should become models at the national level by implementing alternative ‘pro-people’ policies.
Faced with criticism and condemnation on Nandigram and Singur, dogged with the dilemma of attracting foreign and domestic private investment at state level while opposing them at the Centre and problem of land acquisition for industries in Left-ruled states have forced the CPM to formulate a political approach on the role it would play in governments led by it. The major Left party has added a new section on the issue in its Political and Organisational Report, which would be debated and approved at its five-day Congress commencing from March 29 in Coimbatore. The draft was adopted at the recent meeting of the Central Committee of the CPM here.
This aspect, which is being included in the Pol-Org Report for the first time, assumes significance in the context of the evolving Centre-state relations and issues like attracting investments for industrial growth in the Left-ruled states as well as the political and administrative experiences in incidents like in Nandigram or Munnar.
