Residents of the crumbling housing quarters for Economically Weaker Section on Monday staged a dharna near Raj Bhavan demanding that the quarters be reconstructed.

After several blocks of the quarters had collapsed in the past, the BBMP had decided to demolish the entire building and reconstruct it. It even evicted residents of some blocks. Though tenders for reconstructing the quarters had been called, the matter is pending before the court because Akruti Nirman Builders, the company has approached the court questioning the awarding of the contract to another company.
