District administration has decided to impose penalty on anyone found throwing their worn clothes at the rocks near Manikyadhara in Chikmagalur.
The new rule will be in force from Sunday onwards. It is a belief that anybody who comes to Manikyadhara and bathes there must leave their worn clothes symbolically at the rocks at Manikyadara.
District administration developed this as a tourist spot and put up a watch tower too.
With increase in number of visitors, simultaneously increased the quantity of clothes too.
On Sunday, a pro-active team headed by Deputy Commissioner Navinraj Singh and SP Vipul Kumar, comprising of other officials, voluntary organisations and students performed ‘shramadana’ to clean up the area.
Together they cleared off the clothes which have been lying on the rocks and in and around the area for years. With the help of Adventure club, the team even climbed the rocks to pick the clothes hidden near the rocks. After the day long operation DC banned throwing of clothes here.
