On the first day of the second year PU exams that began on Monday 10,519 students wrote the exam at the 34 centres across the district.
In all 26,657 students are appearing for the examinations this year including 21,697 new students and 4957 old and private candidates.
Three students writing chemistry papers at the Pavagada government college were accused of copying. They have been debarred from exams, said PU education department deputy director Mahadev Murthy.
Thirty four centres of examination are opened in the district including 13 at Tumkur, 2 at Gubbi, 3 at Kunigal, 3 at Tiptur, 2 at Chikkanayakanahalli, 2 at Turuvekere, 2 at Madhugiri, 3 at Sira, one at Koratagere and 3 at Pavagada.
