Bravo cleared for Lanka series
Dwayne Bravo has been cleared to play for West Indies in the first Test against Sri Lanka, starting on Saturday in Guyana.

Bravo was sidelined with a discomfort in his back for the sixth round of matches in the West Indies first-class championship, when his native Trinidad and Tobago faced the Combined Campuses and Colleges.
Bravo is looking forward to series.

Dhiman likely for Mumbai Indians
All-rounder Gaurav Dhiman is set to sign up with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, reports DHNS from Bangalore.

The former under-19 World cupper will thus team up with fellow Bangalorean Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey in the Sachin Tendulkar-led side.

Isha loses; Uberoi sisters win
India’s Isha Lakhani lost 3-6, 3-6 to fourth-seeded South African Chanelle Scheepers in the first round of the $25,000 Greater Noida ITF women’s circuit tournament on Monday, reports PTI from Noida.

In the women’s doubles, the Uberoi sisters — Shikha and Neha — beat the Chinese team of Wan-Ting Liu and Yi-Jing Zhao 6-2, 3-6, 10-4. Sanaa Bhambri and Rushmi Chakravarthi beat Sonal Phadke and Britain’s Nicola Mooney 6-2, 6-1.

Doctorate for Anand
World chess champion Viswanathan Anand was on Monday conferred honorary Doctorate by the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, reports PTI from Chennai.

Aussie cricketer Brown dies
Bill Brown (95), a former Australian Test cricketer and a member of the 1948 Invincible squad that toured England unbeaten, has died, reports AP from Sydney.

Southee added to Kiwi squad
Teenage pace bowler Tim Southee was added to an otherwise unchanged New Zealand squad for the third Test against England in Napier from Saturday, reports Reuters from Wellington.

The squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Matthew Bell, Jamie How, Stephen Fleming, Ross Taylor, Mathew Sinclair, Jacob Oram, Grant Elliott, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Mark Gillespie, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee, Chris Martin.

Narrow win for Kaveri
Kaveri Hockey Club registered a 3-2 win over Naveen Hockey Club in the Travancore Cup hockey tournament in Bangalore on Monday.

Mixed luck for Indian boxers
KTT Singh advanced to the second round in the Asian Olympic boxing qualifiers and Sanjay Kolte crashing out in Astana (Kazakhstan), reports PTI from New Delhi.

Singh beat Indonesian Akasa Rambing in the 60kg category 23-3, while Kolte lost 9-25 in the light flyweight category.

ONGC, IOCL in title round
ONGC and IOCL enterd the men’s team event final in the PSPB badminton tournament on Monday, reports UNI from New Delhi.
BPCL will take on IOCL in the women’s final.

Mamta named Indian captain
Mamta Kharab has been named captain in the probables list of the Indian women’s team in the Olympic qualifiers to be held in Kazan (Russia) from April 19 to 27, reports DHNS.

The probables: Goalkeepers: Dipika Murty, Marita Tirkey, Poonam Toppo. Defenders: Binita Toppo, Suman Bala (vice-capt), Rajwinder Kaur, Pushpa Pradhan. Midfielders: Subhadra Pradhan, Gagandeep Kaur, Asunta Lakra, Th Ranjita, Rosalind Ralte, Manorama Devi. Forwards: Mamta Kharab (capt), Rani Devi, Ritu Rani, Saba Anjum, Surinder Kaur, Jasjeet Kaur, Deepika Thakur, Adline Kerketta, Pritam Rani Siwach.
