Addressing a public rally as part of his jaitra yatra at Mahalakshmipuram, he said he had decided to completely ban the sale of liquor after seeing its impact on poor families. “The sale of arrack was banned for the same reason. Now, I want to introduce complete prohibition,” he stated. Claiming the complete credit for ban on arrack, he alleged that the then coalition partner, the BJP, was against banning arrack. “I insisted on it and even fought with former deputy chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to implement it,” he added.
He also accused the BJP of promoting the cause of NICE, which is implementing BMIC project. “NICE is not interested in implementing the project. But it is eyeing on valuable 2,800 acre lands worth Rs 30,000 crore. The present administration should not give away excess land to NICE ,” he added.
