Addressing a state-level kisan rally organised by the BJP here, he termed the loan waiver an eye wash keeping in view the ensuing elections to various states. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced that the centre was contemplating to waive Rs 25,000 crore agriculture loan.
But, Chidambaram jacked it up to Rs 60,000 crore without mentioning the number of farmers to be benefited by it and also failed to give break-up figures. This has created confusion among farmers and the centre owes an explanation, he added.
Training his guns on Congress and JD(S), which made mockery when B S Yeddyurappa expressed his wish to follow “Gujarat model” of development, Modi gave details of overall development of Gujarat in the last 10 years when compared to 30-40 years of the Congress rule.
He claimed that the situation in his home state had undergone a sea change due to launching of various schemes aimed at upliftment of people.
The rate of farmers’ suicide in Gujarat has been quite low when compared to Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
