She along with actor Sunil and Sachin Mally were travelling from Bagalkote to Bangalore, a lorry had hit their car. While Malashree and Sachin suffered multiple injuries, actor Sunil died within an hour.
Malashree had filed a compensation case in 1995, claiming Rs 50 lakh compensation. However, MACT, Bangalore awarded Rs 59,670 compensatio against which she appealed to HC. The Division Bench comprising Justice Chidananda Ullal and Justice A S Pachhapure, admitted this 2002 appeal and scheduled its final hearing after two weeks, along with the insurance company’s counter-appeal.
The Court also admitted a similar appeal by Sunil’s mother, Nirmala J Shetty, who has challenged MACT’s award of Rs 7.7 lakh compensation for his death, as against her claim of Rs 5 crore.
Notice to PU Board
The High Court on Monday ordered notices to Higher Education department, Pre-University Board and Government PU College of Tiptur, following a girl’s petition seeking permission to write PU examinations, as external candidate.
The petitioner Chaitra B, a resident of Konanur, Arakalgud taluk, Hassan district, said she had finished 1st year PUC at a private college in Tiptur and had registered for second PU examinations. She had paid examination fee through Government PU College, but the PU Board rejected her application in January. The PU Board had refused permission for examinations on the ground that Chaitra, who was born on April 10, 1991, had not completed 17 years, the minimum age stipulated for external candidates.
