Seventy five state police officers received the distinguished President’s Police Medal for meritorious service and gallantry at the ‘Police Investiture Ceremony’ 2008 held at the Raj Bhavan on Monday.
The awards presented for the Independence and Republic Day 2006 and 2007 were given away by Governor Rameshwar Thakur. Felicitating them he said, “The task of the police in any society is very difficult, but the basic function remains the same, that is, maintaining law and order. The credibility of the police is of vital importance in a democratic society. ”
The Governor also added that the police department must think of what kind of policeman should be recruited in the later course of their service. “It is possible for us to have reasonably educated people in the department.”
