She was speaking at a programme held to mark the International Women’s Day, organised by Shri Siddharth Madhyama Adhyayana Kendra here recently.
Though in reality, women have become efficient and strong, circumstances have pushed her to perform both inside and outside the house. Though she earns a good name and position at her workplace, she is made to work like a slave in her own house. This has been the status and position of women at present in the society, she expressed.
Though women enjoy equal freedom in several aspects, however, it was nature’s decision to bestow upon her to be a mother, nourish and care for her house and children. Thus women were naturally forced to confine themselves to the domestic activities, she added.
Joint families have been slowly disintegrating and this is inturn directly affecting the women. Typically in the joint families, the elders took care of the house and the domestic activities and thus, this would facilitate women to carve a niche for themselves in the outside world. Thus, sincere efforts should be made to retain the joint-family system for the benefit of the society as well as women. Especially women should ensure that they strived to retain this form of family, Ms Rekha Hegde added.
Director of Shri Siddharth Madhyama Adhyana Kendra Dr Suchetana Swaroopa said, proper understanding, belief, love and mutual respect among the couples helps build a healthy society.
They can be role models to the society and this can be a healthy contribution to the society, she added.
Lecturers V L Prakash, Ramesh, Nagendra, Muddesh, Sunil and Premjit Mathew were also present on the occasion.
