Camp held on ill effects of the arrack drinking

 A camp on the ill-effects of arrack drinking was recently organised in Kamasandra in Kolar Gold Fields by Excise Department. The residents of this area are known manufacturers of the arrack. But after a series of raids by the excise department and after the arrack ban came into existence, they have been scared off.

But for decades these people have known no other forms of livelihood and expressed their desperation to the officials, for Deputy Superintendent of Excise department L A Manjunath had thought of relief system and also an alternative livelihood to all those who had lost their jobs. As a result the camp was organised on Monday.

Alternative jobs
Heads of other departments were also consulted to suggest alternative jobs for them.

The camp was presided over by the Excise Department Deputy Commissioner Jayaram.

Dr Fatima also spoke on the occasion and described the ill effects of arrack drinking.

Saraswathi, survey officer from Woman and Child Welfare Department spoke on the various initiatives of the department for  women and various law in the Indian Penal Code to protect a woman against domestic violence.

She also urged the people of Kamasandra to think of alternative careers with the help of the department.
Department inspectors  Vanjakshi, Vajramatti and their teams also participated.
