Forum of Former Vice-Chancellors Secretary Prof B V Coutinho, in a statement, said that it was decided to establish the forum as former V-Cs’ subject expertise could be utilised to advise the concerned in matters related to higher education.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Prof R Dwarakinath, former V-C, UAS, on March 16.

Coutinho said that it was felt that the Forum is relevant in the context of globalisation and emergence of knowledge society in India. Large funds have been earmarked for educational sector in the recent Central and State budgets.

It therefore become imperative to have such an opinion making expert body in the area of education so that it can offer its advice and expertise thus moulding public opinion in matters related to education.

The following former V-Cs are on a committee to draft an appropriate constitution/bye-laws for the Forum:  Prof N R Shetty - Chairman; P Venkataramaiah, M Muniyamma, K Balaveera Reddy, S Kanta, M Mahadevappa, K Hanumanthappa, N S Ramegowda, K G Lakappa Gowda and V B Coutinho - Secretary/Convenor.

The first meeting will be held on March 22 at 4 pm in the office of ISTE-WPLP, UVCE campus, K R Circle, Bangalore-1.
