Cut In Excise Duty On Cloth
New Delhi, Mar 18.
Prime Minister Nehru today announced excise reliefs on all varieties of cloth. These reliefs, he estimated, would cost the exchequer Rs 15 crore. Mr Nehru, who was replying to the general debate on the budget, also announced that for 1958-59, no deposits would be called for from companies either in respect of accumulated profits and reserves or current
profits.
Opposition Walk Out Twice In A Day
Bangalore, Mar 18.
The Praja Socialist Party with the support of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti members staged a walk-out in the Mysore assembly protesting against the procedure adopted by the Speaker in putting to vote an Opposition amendment to the Sales Tax Bill.
The Opposition within the next 15 minutes alspstaged a second walk-out.

Budget Shows Rs 160.74 Cr Deficit
Bangalore, Mar 18
Fresh taxes to net Rs 11.10 crore are proposed in the first budget of the first ever Janata Government in Karnataka presented to the State Assembly by Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde today. Mr Hegde also announced various reliefs and concessions in his Rs 160.74 crore deficit budget for 1983-84.
The relief and concessions to the farmers alone amount to Rs 36 crore. The budget estimates the total receipts during the year at Rs 1,911.32 crore.
