The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday cleared the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Amendment Bill, 2008, even as BJP strongly criticised it saying the original ordinance had been brought to dislodge NDA-appointed Prasar Bharati chairman M V Kamath. The Bill, which replaces the ordinance that resulted in the exit of Mr Kamath from the post, fixes the maximum age limit of the chairman at 70 years or three years from the date of assuming office, while increasing the retirement age of the CEO from 63 to 65.
Replying to the debate on the Bill, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi refuted the Opposition charge and said the UPA government had nothing against any individual.
