Sonia’s call to Krishna came when the latter called on the seer at the mutt in Tumkur.
After speaking to Krishna, she took time to speak to the seer, praising his Daasoha (free meals) programme for 9,000 odd poor students of the mutt school and other visitors daily. She wished the seer a long life.
The seer responded in English for a couple of minutes. Later, Krishna had another telephonic conversation with Sonia in a separate room, Congress party sources said.
Krishna was accompanied by party functionaries, including V Somanna, the General Secretary of the Organising Committee for the grand finale of the seer’s centenary celebration, scheduled for May 31, June 1 and 2.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Justice Shivraj Patil and other distinguished guests are among the invitees.
