HIGH COURT
Voting rights: Govt notification quashed
DH News Service, Bangalore:

A Division Bench of HC confirmed a single judge order quashing the State government action in granting voting rights to Chief Officers of Co-operative Societies, in management committee proceedings.

The Division Bench comprising Justice V Gopala Gowda and Justice Arali Nagaraj dismissed an appeal by the State Co-operation Department against the single judge order dated March 28, 2006.

The order had quashed the Government’s 2002 notification granting voting right to Chief Officers in the management committee meetings of Cooperative Societies, while allowing a petition by Ananth Parameshwara Bhat, an advocate of Uttar Kannada.

Contrary
The Bench opined that granting voting right to an administrative member was contrary to the scheme of Co-operative Societies Act.
