This programme is being launched in response to the tremendous demand from the major retail organisations for specialists in retailing.
Retailing is a large and dynamic sector of any economy and is among the world's most highly respected and innovative businesses.
This Retail Management programme has been designed in collaboration with major retailers to ensure that the programme is commercially relevant, up-to-date, and so that it helps graduates maximise their employment prospects.
The programme mainly focuses on preparing students for a career as a manager in any of the specialist head office retailing functions such as buying, marketing, merchandising, personnel, or logistics. However, if they decide eventually to pursue a career outside of retailing, the multi-disciplinary nature of the programme will still enable them to pursue a variety of career opportunities in a very wide range of business environments. This programme is designed in such a way, that if one desires to change his/her stream, one can do so - the adaptability to a new environment will be relatively easy.
In the first 2 trimesters students will be made strong in fundamental and functional areas and in computing and various other skills. Their written and oral communication skills as well as their ability to work in groups will be developed. Furthermore, one will have the choice of developing his or her language skills in French or German. In the next 3 trimesters, emphasis will be totally on retail management in a totally packed programme.
The sixth trimester will be spent in professional training in a business placement as a trainee manager.
There are relatively few University degree courses specialising in retail management, and consequently employment and career prospects are excellent.
