Members of Dalit Students Federation of Dr B R Ambedkar hostel held a protest in front of the Kolar ZP CEO’s office on Wednesday urging for basic facilities at all hostels in the district.
Eight months have passed since Dailt hostels started functioning in the taluk. However, no basic facilities have been provided at these hostels, alleged students.
Dalit Students Federation has brought this to the notice of the concerned authorities many times. The officials have only been making promises and are not taking any constructive steps in this direction, said the students. Hence there was no other way but to hold a protest rally, they added.
Students demanded that adequate infrastructure should be provided at all hostels in the district. Beds, tables and chairs need to be given to students at Ambedkar hostel-1. The hostel needs painting and a compound wall should be constructed. A connecting road to the hostel should be made ready.
All hostels should run in own buildings. Drinking water should be ensured at all hostels, said the students. On hearing the demands ZP CEO F R Zamadar assured the students that arrangements will be made to meet these demands at the earliest. He said already the concerned officials have been actively working in this direction and the process of providing infrastructure will be speeded up. Students called off their protest after the assurance by the ZP CEO .
Dalit Students Federation president B Manjunath, district chief secretary M G Venkatesh, C Venkatesh, G Venkatachalapathi, Sampath umar, Shashidhar, Shivu, Anand were among those who took part in the protest.
