TMC to streamline water supply
DH News Service, Shidlaghatta:

The new members of the town municipal council of Shidlaghatta town, at the maiden meeting, unanimously decided to implement a uniform drinking water system in Shidlaghatta and also cancel all the illegal water supply connections.

Most of the members who attended the meeting, alleged that some of the vested interests were utilising the public taps for their personal use. Stringent action should be taken against such people, they urged. They also stated that in the recent days, there was an acute drinking water shortage in the town. Measures should be taken to solve it, they added.

There was some problem with regards to the construction of the underground drainage system and thus, the drainage water rushed onto the roads, creating problems. The members of the ward were not informed about the projects that were being implemented in their respective wards. The officials never bothered to inform the TMC members about the changes made in the various issues, the members complained at the meeting.

The officials were warned that all the problems should be set right or else, stringent action would be initiated against the erring officials.

Chief Officer of the TMC G V Nagaraju explained at the meeting that several buildings had been demolished for the road-widening project. In order to set right the edges and the borders of the roads, an amount of Rs 1 crore was required. Out of this Rs 70 lakh amount was ready, and the  deputy commissioner had instructed the Department of Public Works to release the amount, he added.

Congress member Narayanswamy urged that instead of handing over the amount of the Public Works Department, the TMC should undertake the project. A lot of other members also expressed their consent on the matter.

Several issues were taken up at the meeting for discussion, including, construction of park in the Ashraya Layout at a cost of Rs 2 lakh, collection and distribution of sewerage water at the waste collection point and several others. However, no decision could be taken on these issues.

TMC President Rihana Taj, Vice-President K V Narayanswamy and all the TMC members, including various officials attended the meeting.
