B-school fest

With ‘Global Warming’ at its heart, Amaze-the B-School Fest organised by The Indian Institute of Planning and Management lived up to its name. Sixty B-Schools and colleges from all over India had almost a 1000 participants battling it out across diverse competitions from a global debate to a karaoke challenge across three days.

The centrepiece of the management events was the Global Youth Debate Conclave which attracted 50 participants from 15 countries. The finals of the competition, which had topics themed around ‘Climate Change and its Worldwide Impact’, were judged by Chippy Gangjee,  who was joined at the judges panel by Prahlad Rao, MD, Thomas Assessments and Prof V Krishnan, a  corporate trainer. After intense team face off on issues like ‘E-Waste is a global challenge’ and ‘Tax incentives should be given for green living’, the team comprising Abhinav Sarna and Yash Marda from SBM Jain College walked away as the winners while Lucas Caress, from the University of Vermont, USA was selected the best debater of the competition.

The other intensely fought competition was ‘Youthquake-The Breakthrough’ manager which saw 60 bright young minds fight it out over two days to be chosen the ‘breakthrough’ manager. Abhijit Singh Jhala of IIPM, New Delhi walked away with the title of the ‘Breakthrough’ manager. And then there was the unique photography contest-Click, presented by Pixetra. The contests in the other arenas were fierce too as teams cracked financial quizzes and debated burning finance issues in ‘The Index Factor'-A complete CFO workout. There were sizzling fashion shows as well. The show was preceded by a performance each from the three finalists of the ‘Claim 2 Fame’ Karaoke contest organised by Reliance TimeOut.

The citywide karaoke hunt involving 300 odd contestants finally crowned Arya Panicker from Mount Carmel College the winner. RJ Rohit Barker and DJ Ivan set the stage alight with the latest tracks for the enthusiastic crowd to dance to.

The last day of Amaze 2008 witnessed the rocking live performance from the famous retro band of the 70s BONEY M.
